Matamoros, officially known as Heroica Matamoros is a city in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The shores of River Rio Grande (which is also famous by the name of Rio Bravo amongst the locals of Mexico) are also located next to the city of Matamoros. The nearby Gulf Coast and the beautiful Baghdad Beach are some of the famous attractions for the city of Matamoros. It is the first, largest, and most populous municipality in all of Tamaulipas. According to the interstate census of 2016, it has a population of 520,367. It is located on the southern bank of the Rio Grande, directly across the border from Brownsville, Texas, in the United States.
